After we got all the footage of the band we needed, we moved on to the story portion of the music video. The incomparable Jen Fairfield once again took care of styling, and lighting guru Katie Anderson handled the lights for the dance portion of the video. It really is difficult to get a bad photo when working with people like this. We also had the help of Danny, who has extensive experience on stage and on set as an actor, makeup artist, assistant, movie-quote trivia expert, and general crazy bastard. As for the actors, Robert Clark played the Writer, and CD Nelson played the Dancer. I don’t want to give TOO much away as far as plot is concerned, since the video has not premiered yet. That happens January 15th at One Eyed Jack’s in New Orleans. It should be an unforgettable night.
We shot in three different locations, on a stage, in a dressing room, and “the Writer’s Office”. Katie’s stage lighting was absolutely stunning and a pleasure to work in, very dramatic with gelled spots focused on the actors as they danced across the stage. In the dressing room, director Jonathan Evans lit the whole scene using only one softbox. Simple, beautiful light, and very convenient for my purposes. I loved the huge mirror and globe lights, they made for an interesting visual effect, even if they played havoc with my camera sensor a few times. There were a few good shots ruined by odd ghostly green spots on the photo. The spots were in a straight line, as were the globe lights, so I can only assume the globes were the cause. Oh well, live and learn. “The Writer’s Office” was actually a living room with props thrown in. Jonathan set a gelled spot up high to give the room a nighttime feel, and used another spot for some interesting effects that you will see in the video. I took advantage of the spot to accentuate some fairly decent window light, and got some great shots. Both of the actors were relaxed, having fun, and a joy to work with. I even got some shots of Ramona, who became the official mascot of the video. Let’s take a look:
